IME Membership Categories

Regular Members

Companies that manufacture commercial explosives and ammonium nitrate used in commercial explosives are considered Regular Members. Annual dues are based upon a three-year average of annual domestic commercial sales in the United States and Canada proportional to IME’s annual budget. Regular Members appoint one voting representative to the Board of Governors.

Associate Members

Companies that store, transport, use or distribute explosives, produce blasting agents, manufacture equipment used for commercial explosives, demilitarize explosives, or provide other related services, such as consulting or insurance, are considered to be Associate Members. Annual dues are based on a tiered scale reflecting total sales of the previous year related to the activities for which they are eligible for membership. Each associate member appoints one representative on the Board of Governors, and there is one voting Associate Member Governor for every five Associate Members.

Academic Members

Our newest membership category, Academic Members, are institutions that exist for the primary purposes of:

  1. Education in disciplines relevant to the commercial explosives industry
  2. Research and development efforts that advance the safety and security of commercial explosives. This includes universities and government-funded laboratories.
