Originally developed in 2008 with DOT/PHMSA, the AESC/IME JPG Standard has been successfully used to process thousands of jet perforating gun systems without the need for costly laboratory testing and with minimal processing time at PHMSA. After 9 years of testing and at the request of PHMSA, IME and AESC completed a review of the JPG Standard that resulted in a new Version 02 that became effective on 9/1/2017. Version 02, has now been incorporated by reference into the DOT/PHMSA’s Hazardous Materials Regulations under final rule HM-219C 85 FR 75680 that was published on 11/25/2020. The final rule became effective on 12/28/2020, with delayed compliance authorized until 11/26/2021. Version 02 implements some changes that affect approvals issued under the original (2008) version. These changes require industry actions that must be completed by 11/26/2021 and are explained in an industry notification published by IME and AESC on 6/12/2018 and updated on 8/25/2021.
